DESCRIPTION:
New England banjo wall clock, variant, 8 days, time only, weight driven movement in a mahogany case with gold leafed front, reverse painted throat and lower tablets and painted metal dial with rare indication of hours on a rotating disc, behind a crescent opening, c1820
CONDITION:
the case retains its original finish with a later presentation base. The top finial has been repainted. The reverse painted tablets are period. The dial is an old repaint with good crazing. The movement is original to the case, however the keystone has been altered and the dial raised by several screws randomly set around perimeter of banjo head to assist in clearance. The case is stamped "824" in three places. The lower box retains its original glue blocks, weight baffle and tie down assembly. Ht 39"
